We are the Colorado Springs Chapter of
Women On Wheels®.
We also have a handful of nice fellas that go with us on day rides - They usually ride "sweep" and look after us.
Chapter meetings are the 2nd Saturday of each month and we have them
at Perkins Restaurant – at the corner of Platte and Chelton - just north of
Rocky Mountain Cycle Plaza. Breakfast starts at 8:30am - forks down and
chit-chat done by 9:15 for the start of the meeting. We will go through our agenda
and chapter update and fellowship until we run out of things to talk about. We
have door prizes at every meeting and a 50/50 drawing to raise chapter funds
(since we don't have chapter dues). Everyone
is more
than welcome to join us at our next Chapter meeting and meet some of the
members.
After our meetings, we quite often end up going for a short day ride for those of us who have free time to ride on Saturdays.
Our 2009 Ride Calendar will be FULL of social events and group rides. Join our Yahoo Group for an updated list of events.
Every year on the first Saturday in October, we sponsor our Breast Cancer Awareness Ride - where all proceeds and donations go directly to the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In 2008 year we raised $10,000 - we had over 285 participants - it was awesome!!!
The last Friday of each month - we have Family Dinner Night. It's a great time for fun and fellowship and we have a great time with our families and friends.
We will have two open house/membership drives this year and have at least one group ride scheduled in each month of riding season - some months we have two rides scheduled!!
We have adopted a stretch of highway out on 115 that we clean up twice a year to help KEEP Colorado Beautiful!
We
also have adopted a local nursing home and visit them during the year and at
Christmas time - where we are assigned a resident and we take them gifts. We
bring snacks and sing Christmas carols and it's a wonderful time for everyone!
As far as joining Women on Wheels® and Mountain Shadow Riders - the only dues you pay would be the National Women On Wheels® dues. $30.00 a year - we have no Chapter dues.

The Women of Mountain Shadow
Riders - by Carolee L.
(Published in Women On Wheels National Magazine - April 2005)
We love to ride and have fun
Whether in a group of bikes or maybe just one
We go out in the community
Spreading good cheer
Our membership is growing
Year after year
Some of us are married, some of us
are not
We let our husbands & boyfriends ride with us a lot
We don't care what you ride
Or if your bike is old or new
Heck we are happy if you show up
on four wheels or two.
We are Moms & Daughters
Sisters and Friends
The bonds we build through MSR
Are the kind that never ends
We support each other
Like real sisters would do
We are one big family
Tried and true.
Some of us wear helmets
Some of us don't
We pray for each others safety
But lecture you - We won't.
Some of us ride Harley's
And love the roar of the pipes
Some of us prefer metric
You know - those 'rice burner' types
Together we share
our laughter and tears
We listen to each others
triumphs and fears
Sometimes we go out
And tear up the town
We can be loud and crazy
Not much gets 'us' down
We are just normal gals
Who love the wind in our hair
But the greatest thing about Mountain Shadow Riders is,
About each other - We Care!
Roses are Red - by Dorothy T.
Roses are red
Sunflowers are yellow
We are Red-Hot Mamas
Who refuse to mellow.
Roses are red
Take our wagers
We'll never be old...
Just recycled teenagers.
